🏛️ UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Sites - explore cultural traditions, skills, and heritage passed down through generations.
Unlike UNESCO's World Heritage List, which protects physical places - monuments, natural sites - Intangible Cultural Sites (ICS) protects living heritage: practices, knowledge, skills, and the objects and cultural spaces tied to them, which communities themselves recognize as part of their identity. The convention was adopted by UNESCO in 2003 and has been in effect since 2006. It covers oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, and traditional craftsmanship.
UNESCO maintains three lists: the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Sites of Humanity (the largest, covering practices of broad cultural significance), the List of Intangible Cultural Sites in Need of Urgent Safeguarding (practices at risk of disappearing), and the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices (programs recognized as models for preserving heritage).
Inscribed practices range from French baguette-making and Haitian pumpkin soup, to Congolese rumba, Catalan human towers (castells), Vietnamese pottery-making, and Turkish stonework.
On our site, this list reflects the elements inscribed on these UNESCO lists.
🍸 Bars — discover outstanding bars from some of the world’s most recognised rankings.
Rather than relying on a single ranking, we combined 6 respected international bar lists and editorial sources to create one comprehensive, curated selection. The sources included Top 500 Bars , Time Out’s Best Bars in the World’s Best Cities , The World’s 50 Best Bars , and Asia’s, Europe’s & North America’s 50 Best Bars , covering both the top 1–50 and 51–100 selections.
By bringing these lists together, we were able to identify bars that consistently stand out across different rankings, cities, regions, and judging methodologies. We then cross-referenced and curated the results into one final list, reducing duplication while preserving the strongest and most relevant venues.
The result is not simply a combination of rankings, but a curated selection designed to capture the best bars across the globe.
