Hello Fellow Most Traveled Person,
Happy Holidays wherever you are! We have some exciting changes in the works for 2023, so get ready!
In the biggest change, starting Jan 1, we will reconcile NomadMania regions with MTP regions worldwide. This means that our Master List will increase to about 1500 regions, and it will be easier to track your progress in both places. MTP was founded in 2005 by combining the major lists of the time, and has always strived to be the most detailed and comprehensive division of the land area of the world.
For many years now, NomadMania has been scrupulously evolving its own master list, dividing countries using a detailed formula of population, area and other factors. While we’ve been adopting these incrementally over the last 3 years with large countries like Algeria and Mongolia, it’s time now to adopt them wherever they are more detailed than existing MTP boundaries.
It’s a tribute to the hard work of the NomadMania team that we recognize these, and we look forward to working together more with NomadMania in 2023.
I’ll come back to you at the beginning of the year with more detailed instructions on how to update your counts following these changes.
Since the MTP rankings will likely change once the dust settles in January, we plan to recognize our Top 10 MTP travelers as of Dec 31 with permanent Hall of Fame status and a special shrine on the website.
Also new in 2023, we have formed a Steering Committee of 10 members, who will represent MTP to users, and be responsible for geographic decisions going forward, including the addition of any new lists. Each of the members is in the UN Hall of Fame, having visited all 193 UN Countries. These are truly some of the most traveled people in the world. Please join me in welcoming each of them!
… and last but not least
Well, that’s it for now. I'll be back with you on New Years with more on the list updates. In the meantime, all the best of the season for 2022, and as always, thank you for being a part of MTP.
Happy Travels!
