In Memory of a Great Explorer - We mourn the loss of Jorge Sanchez, a remarkable soul and one of the most widly traveled individuals in the world. His life was guided by a profound motto: „Travel as a pilgrimage, a quest for knowledge and learning.”

For him, every journey was more than movement; it was a search for meaning, wisdom, and connection.

Today, the world of travelers feels a profound loss. Thank you for the journeys, the inspiration, and the legacy you leave behind.

Jorge Sanchez was a traveler’s traveler, and a true extreme travel pioneer. During the early days of MTP, Jorge was one of my biggest influences, constantly motivating me to expand the boundaries of MTP, to include the myriad places he had visited, and which he insisted (correctly, of course) were “culturally different.” There was always more for Jorge to do - more to see. He would depart Barcelona with a pittance of Euros in his pocket, money which he had made washing dishes in a restaurant near to his home. He saved by sleeping in the rough, on beaches, park benches, in churches and wherever else he could for free. Anyone who ever heard Jorge snore would say that his sleeping habits were to the benefit of all hotel-dwelling guests nearby! An effusive talker and prolific writer, Jorge was always near the top of the MTP leaderboard throughout its early days, and his energy abounded in the community until he settled down with his 3rd wife and child in Russia around 2009. Nevertheless, he was never forgotten, and will be remembered as one of the giants of the extreme travel landscape. - Charles Veley
