MTP App v1.2 now released
MTP News

Hello Everyone!  It's good to be back in San Francsico, after visiting such far-flung MTP areas as Tudjuh Archipelago, Oecussi, and (finally) Henderson, Oeno, and Ducie! More on those in separate blogposts.

As you may have noticed, we released a new version of the App this week (1.2). Please update if you haven't already.  And those of you with iPhones who haven't downloaded the map yet, it's on the App Store here.  And if you've already been enjoying the app, why not take a minute to give it a 5-star review? smiley

V1.2 has some cool new features, such as a quick drill-down into your world map, and the ability to share that map to Facebook, as well as new options to post text or a photo direct from map markers (even offline).  Also, I know that several of you have recently reported missing or disappearing check-ins, especially while offline, so we hope this version has fixed those. This new app version is getting very close to the final feature set which we will port to Android.

Regarding "disappearing" World Heritage Sites, remember from our last post that in cases where a WHS is comprised of multiple locations, WHS "children" are now separate checkboxes.  This is for accuracy, and also to make it easier for people to find the nearest WHS locations on the app.  For example, on our way back from Aksai Chin recently, Joao and I visited Jokhang Monastery and Norbulingka in Lhasa. But even though they both displayed prominent UNESCO WHS plaques, the app wasn't checking us in. Why? Because only the generic "Potala Palace" location was in MTP at that time.  In reality, the WHS is the "Historical Ensemble of the Potala Palace", consisting of all 3 child locations.  So we knew we needed to add the other two children, and then do the same thing worldwide.

While checking any child will still count the WHS as a whole, there is no longer a generic "parent" checkbox.  So just this once, you'll have to go back and check the actual child location you visited (which is not so difficult on the map view, either in the app or on the web). If your WHS total looks lower than expected, you've probably visited a few of these WHS which are now split into children, and need to go check one of the child locations here.

THANK YOU to all of you who have reported missing or misplaced WHS markers!  We do our best to fix those right away. To report ANYTHING which looks out of place, to share your ideas, or just to chat, use the contact form here.

Next up - keep your eyes peeled in the next few days for web improvements, such as faster and more intuitive checkbox and profile pages, and better renderings on small screens. Thanks as always for your support!
