Hello Everyone,
Those of you are avid WHS collectors will have noticed that more and more new WHS are multi-site these days, meaning that the WHS comprises more than one location. The new Frank Lloyd Wright WHS comprises 8 locations in disparate regions. The Le Corbusier WHS contains 17 locations, and is even more spread out around the world.
Our long-standing policy is that visiting one part of a WHS constitutes visiting the whole WHS (which is easier to say than to implement). But now our members are relying more and more on the markers on our maps, seeking to check in in real time and in person with our new app. So we had to get serious about handling this.
We are in the process of adding every child of each multi-site WHS, and will handle them as follows: If you click any child WHS, the parent will count. All of the other children will remain unchecked for your further collection. However, you can NO LONGER COUNT THE PARENT ITSELF when there are children present - one of the children will be the actual location of your visit. In fact, some of you may see a change in your totals if you had a WHS checked which is now split up unto many children. Apologies for the inconvenience, but this will be a good chance to go through and check your WHS counts. Note that there are more WHS children in total than there are WHS, so adding all of them is no trivial feat!
A reminder that you can check-in to WHS in either map or checklist format, both on the app and on the web. Of course if you are traveling with the app to a WHS, the app should automatically notify you to check in when you get there. If any markers are misplaced, and not working for you, please let us know.
In some cases, the WHS Parent has the same name as one of its children, and so is producing duplicate markers on the app map. This will be solved in the next version of the app, where we will stop displaying the parent markers.
Additionally, the next version of the app will allow offline check-in; in those cases where you have no coverage, your visit will be recorded, then uploaded the next time you get a connection.
Membership Poll Question: We added all WHS children for the vast majority of cases, where there were 10 children or less. But there are a few WHS with hundreds of children, and we would like your feedback on how to handle those. Putting hundreds of extra markers onto the map for a single WHS seems unnecessary and could be confusing. If you have ideas on how to handle these cases, please write to me HERE.
I'm seeing more and more interest in WHS and am glad we are improving our systems to help you get out and see them. Thanks as always for your support!
